My first experience of paying IRL with Bitcoin (for beers!) in London this weekend

Hello all, I've been reading this part of reddit for the last few months after doing lots of my own research on Bitcoin. I was fascinated by the concept & was hungry to learn more - and this forum has been really helpful - so first off, to all you contributors here, thanks!
I jumped on board & purchased 1.1 BTC in mid-December, managing to time it perfectly when the price dropped following news of China's restrictions on bitcoin exchanges. My plan is to hold for the long term - but I also want to do my bit in supporting the bitcoin economy in the meanwhile, even it really is a tiny amount. I've since ordered a pizza online with bitcoin (using takeaway.com) & on the weekend just gone I took a another small step toward supporting the bitcoin economy by tracking down a 'pop-up' pub in Shoreditch, London. I live in Manchester & was having a weekend away with my girlfriend - and after reading about the fact this place would be accepting Bitcoin as payment (from a post here on reddit!) I easily persuaded my girlfriend to come check it out with the promise of drinks on me :)
It's a quirky little underground venue, with a friendly host that runs a table service. It has a relaxed atmosphere & feels like you're a guest in someone's living room (especially with all the 70's furniture & soft lighting). I asked the waitress about Bitcoin and she said she was amazed how popular it's been since they advertised that they'd be accepting it as a payment option. I witnessed another table nearby paying with Bitcoin, and as we paid our bill another group entered the bar & upon seeing us, asked about Bitcoin too. It was very encouraging to witness & nice to be amongst other Bitcoin users in a real-life setting, rather than just a virtual one. Also, the craft beers they have on offer are very very tasty! Here are a couple that we had:
http://imgur.com/AZzVrH6 (bitcoin beers, yay!)
If anyone else is in London & wants to check this place out - here is their website: http://www.thecraftbeersocialclub.co.uk/
I shall now be emailing some bars in my local area, telling them how good my experience of using Bitcoin was in London & the increased trade that bar received as a result of adopting it. My friends have been sceptical about Bitcoin, but after seeing that I've just bought a very precious commodity to them with Bitcoin, i.e. BEER! I think they're now changing their outlook on digital currencies...
Cheers!

The story of how I paid 90 USD for Modafinil worth 7$ (and waited a month for it).

I hope it's okay to re-post it here. I would hate to have it deleted from Reddit and I would really appreciate this community opinion.
On 4th of September I ordered 50x Modalert 200mg from High Street Pharma. I paid with Bitcoin for extra 30% pills and 25% discount. In total I paid 90$ for order shipped from their EU warehouse: Exhibit A.
3 days later I got an email from them informing me of "stock problems" and asking:
is it fine if we ship Modaawake 200mg and Artvigil 150mg? (...)
We will add extras for you.
I did some research on Modawake-200mg and discovered it is just cheaper version of Modalert. Getting Artvigil-150mg was actually great news for me, because I wanted to order it later from HSP anyway. It is still much cheaper than Modalert-200, but I assumed I will be getting some extras to make up the difference.
Spoiler alert: I was wrong.
After agreeing - I waited for my tracking number and stayed in touch with HSP customer service. I never had to wait long for reply. I was offered refund on 15th of September (11 days after ordering) if I don't get tracking number next day. Luckily I got it!
Well... my order wasn't shipped on 16th, it was shipped 2 days later, but tracking code was generated on 16th, so technically HSP kept the promise.
I had no idea Hungarian Post is so slow. It took 12 days to get to UK. One could walk this distance in 12 days! (Well, almost. It actually takes a little over 13 days).
My parcel arrived shortly after, on 3rd of October: Exhibit B.
What I found inside was really disappointing.
All I got was 60 Modawake-200 pills! No Artvigil-150 at all! Not only that - my order was also 5 pills short (30% of 50 is 15, so I should get 65 pills). I've sent an email to HSP and I was told:
Unfortunately it is not allowed to cut the pills and ship.
However we can add extra 5 with your next order. (...)
There was no Artvigil in order that was placed so we didn't give that.
I've replied with (IMO) valid question - how are they going to add 5 pills if they can't cut it? I also reminded him what I agreed to - "is it fine if we ship Modaawake 200mg and Artvigil 150mg?" .
Now - you may say I'm being difficult. It's the same substance, I was short only 5 pills and I misunderstood them in the first place. Maybe you're right, but do you know "Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price" [per 10 tabs] of different brands of Modafinil?

Name Indian Rupee USD
Modvigil-200 98₹ 1.34$
Artvigil-150 160₹ 2.18$
Modawake-200 80₹ 1.09$
Modalert-200 245₹ 3.34$
Waklert-150 247₹ 3.37$
As you can see - I paid 90$ for pills worth 6.54$ + shipping from Hungary to UK (30 days long shipping). I know paying 90$ for 65x Modalert-200 (MSRP 21.71$) is not much better, but... it still is 3 times better!
Next time you get all excited about the amazing 20%!, 25%!, 30%! off and all those extra pills! you're getting from your amazing vendor! - remember how much money he actually makes off you.
I really hope my story won't end here and HSP will get back to me (it is weekend after all!). Obviously I will keep you guys updated!
If you're curious why there's such a big difference in price between brands of the same product: first three are manufactured by HAB and the last two by SunPharma. There should be MSRP (MRP) per 10 tablets printed on every blister pack you got - "Rs" stands for Indian Rupee ₹.

I know nothing about Danish banking and finances and i'm Danish!

So, long story short I left Denmark as a very little kid and have never been back expect for a weekend trip to Copenhagen a few years back. I've lived most of my life and adult life in the UK (I'm 27), i'm basically British culturally but Danish by birth and nationality. I lost contact with my family so i have absolutely no ties to Denmark whatsoever.
My goal is to reintegrate into Denmark and hopefully buy a small cabin somewhere, I have a job in London that allows me to work remotely/WFH full time. I've been thinking about/when I settle down I would rather have my kids be in Denmark than grow up in London, aslo buying a house in London post-brexit seems like a terrible idea (but I do have settled status in UK, not a dual-national).
I have lots of savings in UK saving accounts, I also hold a small number of stocks and shares £500 mark, and a similar amount in bitcoins/cryptocurrency.
I was really happy to find this subreddit, I'm basically after the basics, I don't know any Danish people or speak Danish which has been the biggest barrier to all of this. I'm very financial aware and competent in the UK and would like to know more about the Danish system to get the confidence I need to make the move when the time comes.

  1. I have recently learnt about the CPR number and I have found mine, and I will apply for a NemID once i move to my new place in London - How does the NemID tie into everything?
  2. How do I open a Danish bank account with no address in DK?
    1. If this is possible, which bank is the best for "internationals"? (I have noticed the absence of Monzo/Starling,N26 style banks in Denmark)
  3. What should I do about my savings in British accounts if i decided to move them to a Danish bank account? Will it be taxed again?
  4. I have been aware of the challenges of buying a home in Denmark but are their government schemes like "Help to Buy" or saving accounts like the "Lifetime ISA Account" in UK that are designed for people saving up to buy a home?
    1. In layman's terms, what is the process for buying a home in DK?
  5. If, let say, I decided to move to Denmark, and work remotely from Denmark, would i also owe taxes in Denmark from my salary paid into my British bank account?
Thanks in advance.

Microsoft is committed to trying to buy TikTok's U.S. operations, after CEO Satya Nadella discussed a potential deal during a phone call on Sunday with President Trump. Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) said in a blog post that it will move quickly to pursue discussions with TikTok parent ByteDance (BDNCE), aiming to complete negotiations by Sept. 15. "Microsoft fully appreciates the importance of addressing the President’s concerns," the company said. "It is committed to acquiring TikTok subject to a complete security review and providing proper economic benefits to the United States, including the United States Treasury." The company's aim is to build on TikTok's popular user experience with adding privacy and security protections. The proposed transaction has gained the blessing of top Trump administration officials, including Treasury Secretary Mnuchin, as well as several Republican lawmakers, after the president's Friday night comments that he preferred a TikTok ban in the U.S. instead of a sale took all sides by surprise.
All eyes on U.S. payroll data
The U.S. July employment report, to be released this Friday, will have a binary flavor to it. If the jobs situation is consistent with economists' views, it should give investors more confidence in the economy's health while weak data will weigh on investors' near-term enthusiasm. Current consensus is a rise of 1.65M jobs, albeit a bearish drop of ~27% from last Thursday's projection of 2.25M. Congress is trying to cobble together another stimulus package but, unsurprisingly, Republicans and Democrats are at loggerheads over the specifics.
MLB draws strong TV ratings in opening week
Despite concerns over a truncated 60-game season and empty seats in stadiums, Major League Baseball's opening week has been a resounding success. Games aired nationally during opening weekend (July 23-26) drew more than twice as many viewers as a year ago. Walt Disney's (NYSE:DIS) ESPN said that its first 12 broadcasted games averaged ~1.2M viewers, up 34% compared to last year. Fox Sports (NASDAQ:FOX) also enjoyed a double-digit rise in ratings. According to Michael Mulvihill, Fox Sports head of strategy and analytics, the strong start reflects pent-up demand and little competition from other major U.S. sports. The season, though, is facing its first stern test after 18 members of the Miami Marlins tested positive for COVID-19 leading to the cancellations of certain games by several clubs. 17 games have been postponed to date.
Fed to "relax" approach to managing inflation target
The Fed is preparing to abandon its long-held practice of raising interest rates to preempt overheating in the economy, citing persistently low U.S. inflation. Chairman Jerome Powell hinted at the shift in a news conference last week when he disclosed that the central bank would soon complete a comprehensive review of its policy-making strategy. The change is unlikely to alter much since interest rates are barely above zero and are expected to remain low for the foreseeable future. Longer term, central bankers, economists and investors expect rates to return to a more normal 4% or so once the economic recovery/expansion has matured.
Trump readies action against Chinese software firms
During an interview yesterday on Fox News' Sunday Morning Futures, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that President Trump will announce new action this week against Chinese software companies that he perceives are threats to national security, including TikTok and WeChat that, he says, are "feeding data directly to the Chinese Communist Party." In a separate interview, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin declared that "we are not keeping TikTok in its current form." The expected actions will be the latest salvo in the deterioration in U.S./Sino relations.
Apple sued in China over voice assistant patent
Shanghai Zhizhen Network Technology Company, known as Xiao-i, has filed a lawsuit in a Shanghai court against Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) claiming infringement on a patent covering a voice assistant similar to Siri. The company seeks 10B yuan ($1.43B) in damages and, if successful, could prevent the tech giant from selling many of its products in China. In late June, China's Supreme Court ruled that Xiao-i owns the patent which ended a process that involved several trials since 2012. It is the third time in less than a decade that Apple has faced trademark and patent challenges in its #2 market (behind the U.S.). The company has yet to comment on the matter.
U.S. COVID-19 pandemic in new "widespread" phase
According to White House coronavirus task force coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx, the pandemic is in a "new phase" that is different from the March/April period with "extraordinarily widespread" cases in both urban and rural areas. Reemphasizing the essential role of wearing masks and distancing, Dr. Birx said, "To everybody who lives in a rural area, you are not immune or protected from this virus and that is why we keep saying, no matter where you live in America, you need to wear a mask and socially distance, do the personal hygiene pieces." She also says super-spreading events are the main concern, not super-spreading individuals. Per Johns Hopkins case tracker, U.S. infections are now over 4.6M with over 154K deaths.
GOP and Dems tussle over fourth round of U.S. stimulus
Talks between Republican and Democratic leaders over the specifics of the latest round, the fourth, of economic stimulus are proceeding down the familiar contentious path. Both sides agree on sending $1,200 checks to most Americans but the GOP is apparently balking at a boost to unemployment insurance which was set at $600 per week but recently lapsed. Democrats want to preserve the $600 amount while Republicans want to cut it to $200 due to cost concerns. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is accusing President Trump of standing in the way of a deal. On Face the Nation yesterday, Chief of Staff Mark Meadows said, "I'm not optimistic that there will be a solution in the very near term."
7-Eleven to acquire Speedway for $21B in cash
Seven & i Holdings (OTCPK:SVNDF) indirect subsidiary 7-Eleven has agreed to acquire Speedway from certain subsidiaries of Marathon Petroleum (NYSE:MPC) for $21B in cash. The Enon, Ohio-based chain operates ~3900 convenience stores in 36 U.S. states. The transaction, which includes a 15-year fuel supply agreement for about 7.7B gallons per year, should close in Q1 2021.
China's Caixin manufacturing PMI hits nine-plus year high
The Caixin China manufacturing purchasing managers index hit its highest point since 2011, lending more credence to inklings of a recovery there. China's official PMI rose to its own four-month high last week, and it's got a bigger sample, focused on larger state-owned companies. Caixin focuses on smaller manufacturers, and it hit 52.8, the third straight month it was over 50, signaling expansion.
Rio Tinto sues Australia's Monadelphous over 2019 fire
Rio Tinto (NYSE:RIO) has sued Monadelphous Engineering Associates (OTCPK:MOPHY) over a fire at Rio's Western Australia iron ore processing facility last year. Monadelphous says Rio is claiming MEA breached terms of a contract, and that Rio is seeking A$493M (about $351M) tied to its inability to process iron ore at the plant during repairs.

A new Nano trade exchange was launched a couple of days ago - Here's why anyone who remembers Bitgrail should be be very afraid

This is mostly a duplicate of my summarised responses to that exchange's original announcement threads here and in /nanotrade**.**
The owners of that new exchange are welcome to downvote this new posting of mine, but everyone else can make their own decision about whether to upvote this for posterity's benefit, so that my post gets found in months to come (given that Reddit's search engine is really bad at searching comments.)

Here's what's dodgy about this exchange, and why anyone who remembers BitGrail should be very afraid:
I emphasise that I'm not saying this is a scam. But I am saying it looks like what a scam website would look like and appears to be operating illegally under UK law:

* The domain NanoTrade.co.uk was registered only two days (one working day) before the site went live - meaning it only could have been tested very briefly, (Edit: and could not have been secured against accidentally being taken by another person, which implies incredible lack of planning)
* The domain was registered by NameCheap, with an obscured registrant
* The site was not pre-announced on /Nano Currency nor /NanoTrade
* The site was announced first on /nanotrade (6k subscribers), but only announced here on /nanocurrency (44k subscribers) three days later, demonstrating a lack of knowledge of Nano relative subscribers
* The announcer Paradise2GE claimed Google and Facebook Ads existed prelaunch - but no one of you here saw them because you would have excitedly told us if you had
* No such advertising for the site was noted by me, yet I would have been a key target for it
* Since the domain was not registered, such advertising could not have included, say, a [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) mail form, which is incompetent in itself
* Nano Associates Limited was registered with Companies House on 2018-02-28 (as company number 11229688) - to a London mail-forwarding company's central London address (a postcode with 11,000 companies registered at the same address)
* Its sole Director 'Orlando Carugo' has no Google history of being associated with Nano, Cryptocurrency, or finance at all
* Orlando Carugo's profession is listed as 'Sales Director'
* The Google and LinkedIn history of an UK-based 'Orlando Carugo' (a sales professional) can be found, with no reference to cryptocurrency but with references to being willing to work for stock options or commission
* The announcement on /NanoTrade was made by Paradise2GE - an account with a few questions on Bitcoin two years ago, a single comment one year ago, then absolutely nothing until this weekend.
* We know nothing of the overall reputation of the company owners
* The company uses a payment processor https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/VirWoX which has a daily limit on PayPal withdrawals of 2500EUR. The NanoTrade website however states that up to 90,000 Nano can be sold per PayPal transaction. It seems impossible to reconcile this for me. If 90,000 Nano is sold to PayPal, when would the seller get their money?
* If the answer is that such payments cannot be made, when were the company planning to tell the sellers?
* On being asked on /Nanotrade, Paradise2GE has avoided answering this question in their dissembling answers
* The company is not registered by the FCA
* The company is not registered by HMRC as a money service
* It is a legal requirement for UK based companies to register as money services.
* It is not a get-out to just deal in USD and not GDP, yet Patadise2GE has attempted to use that get-out in their answers
* Paradise2GE has dissembled when answering questions as to why Nano Associates is not registered with FCA or HMRC
* Paradise2GE claimed 1000 trades on their first day... for an unannounced site...purely from a posting that had around 40 up votes at the time. It's a lie. Not even Nanex gets that many trades on a good day.
* Given a supposed 1000 trades in a day, 1440 minutes in a day, and 25% of Nano staked on Binance, we should expect to see >5Nano transactions coming out of the Binance hot wallet at least every 10 minutes or so. I don't see those
* The site works poorly on Android, showing a lack of technical skill in its developers
* The announcement of the exchange on /nanocurrency was by SMcArthurs - a one year old account, with very few postings, and no history in the /nanocurrency or /nanotrade subs
* Someone downvoted my reasonable questions on /nanotrade. I can think of only one person who would want to do that, if malicious
* Someone downvoted someone thanking me for my questions on /nanotrade. I can think of only one person who would want to do that, if malicious
* User astricali has posted at 2018-12-03 05:00GMT that they made a successful sale of 999.99 Nano. I performed a text extraction of the posted image address, which they were apparently instructed to send to, but I notice that although that address indeed Received a 999.99 amount from the Binance Representative at 2018-12-04 02:17:01 (Timezone unknown), the address has never actually Pocketed 999.99 Nano - the payment is still Pending. This is odd, since once might expect an efficient provider to pocket the Nano they receive asap, to sell it on the markets
* The address has however received a range of 8 payments ranging from 1.99 Nano to 1,847.99 Nano. That surprises me, because I would expect a payment provider to use a unique address for each received payment.
* The address has only ever sent a payment once, to KuCoin, on an unknown date before 2018-07-25
* Paradise2GE and SMcArthurs have been extremely quiet in response to these complaints levelled against their site
* Edit: Why would they be selling Nano at 1.00 USD at the moment when Nano is on Binance at 0.94?
* Edit: Seeing 403 Forbidden error 2018-12-05 23:38GMT
* Edit: Don't even get me started on the Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Transfer of Funds (Information on the Payer) Regulations Regulations 2017
* Edit: It's 12 days later - 18-Dec-2018. The 999 Nano still hasn't been pocketed at address. In 12 days neither promoter has denied that's it's their account. They are therefore probably incompetent even if non-malicious.
* Also noticed something I should have picked up before: That address is Represented by Nanowallet.io - which means it's probably an account created on Nanowallet.io. Any 'real' exchange would need, at the very minimum, to run it's own node so that it can be online 24/7 - and if so would most likely Represent itself. Specifically choosing Nanowallet.io as their Representative after installing a full node would be an odd decision, given that they could help decentralize.
'm at way over 22 red flags here. I hope I save someone.

Looking back 18 months.

I was going through old emails today and came across this one I sent out to family on January 4, 2018. It was a reflection on the 2017 crypto bull market and where I saw it heading, as well as some general advice on crypto, investment, and being safe about how you handle yourself in cryptoland.
I feel that we are on the cusp of a new bull market right now, so I thought that I would put this out for at least a few people to see *before* the next bull run, not after. While the details have changed, I don't see a thing in this email that I fundamentally wouldn't say again, although I'd also probably insist that people get a Yubikey and use that for all 2FA where it is supported.
Happy reading, and sorry for some of the formatting weirdness -- I cleaned it up pretty well from the original email formatting, but I love lists and indents and Reddit has limitations... :-/
Also, don't laught at my token picks from January 2018! It was a long time ago and (luckliy) I took my own advice about moving a bunch into USD shortly after I sent this. I didn't hit the top, and I came back in too early in the summer of 2018, but I got lucky in many respects.
----------------------------------------------------------------------- Jan-4, 2018
Hey all!
I woke up this morning to ETH at a solid $1000 and decided to put some thoughts together on what I think crypto has done and what I think it will do. *******, if you could share this to your kids I’d appreciate it -- I don’t have e-mail addresses, and it’s a bit unwieldy for FB Messenger… Hopefully they’ll at least find it thought-provoking. If not, they can use it as further evidence that I’m a nutjob. 😉
Some history before I head into the future.
I first mined some BTC in 2011 or 2012 (Can’t remember exactly, but it was around the Christmas holidays when I started because I had time off from work to get it set up and running.) I kept it up through the start of summer in 2012, but stopped because it made my PC run hot and as it was no longer winter, ********** didn’t appreciate the sound of the fans blowing that hot air into the room any more. I’ve always said that the first BTC I mined was at $1, but looking back at it now, that’s not true – It was around $2. Here’s a link to BTC price history.
In the summer of 2013 I got a new PC and moved my programs and files over before scrapping the old one. I hadn’t touched my BTC mining folder for a year then, and I didn’t even think about salvaging those wallet files. They are now gone forever, including the 9-10BTC that were in them. While I can intellectually justify the loss, it was sloppy and underlines a key thing about cryptocurrency that I believe will limit its widespread adoption by the general public until it is addressed and solved: In cryptoland, you are your own bank, and if you lose your password or account number, there is no person or organization that can help you reset it so that you can get access back. Your money is gone forever.
On April 12, 2014 I bought my first BTC through Coinbase. BTC had spiked to $1000 and been in the news, at least in Japan. This made me remember my old wallet and freak out for a couple of months trying to find it and reclaim the coins. I then FOMO’d (Fear Of Missing Out”) and bought $100 worth of BTC. I was actually very lucky in my timing and bought at around $430. Even so, except for a brief 50% swing up almost immediately afterwards that made me check prices 5 times a day, BTC fell below my purchase price by the end of September and I didn’t get back to even until the end of 2015.
In May 2015 I bought my first ETH at around $1. I sent some guy on bitcointalk ~$100 worth of BTC and he sent me 100 ETH – all on trust because the amounts were small and this was a small group of people. BTC was down in the $250 range at that point, so I had lost 30-40% of my initial investment. This was of the $100 invested, so not that much in real terms, but huge in percentages. It also meant that I had to buy another $100 of BTC on Coinbase to send to this guy. A few months after I purchased my ETH, BTC had doubled and ETH had gone down to $0.50, halving the value of my ETH holdings. I was even on the first BTC purchase finally, but was now down 50% on the ETH I had bought.
The good news was that this made me start to look at things more seriously. Where I had skimmed white papers and gotten a superficial understanding of the technology before FOMO’ing, I started to act as an investor, not a speculator. Let me define how I see those two different types of activity:
So what has been my experience as an investor? After sitting out the rest of 2015 because I needed to understand the market better, I bought into ETH quite heavily, with my initial big purchases being in March-April of 2016. Those purchases were in the $11-$14 range. ETH, of course, dropped immediately to under $10, then came back and bounced around my purchase range for a while until December of 2016, when I purchased a lot more at around $8.
I also purchased my first ICO in August of 2016, HEAT. I bought 25ETH worth. Those tokens are now worth about half of their ICO price, so about 12.5ETH or $12500 instead of the $25000 they would be worth if I had just kept ETH. There are some other things with HEAT that mean I’ve done quite a bit better than those numbers would suggest, but the fact is that the single best thing I could have done is to hold ETH and not spend the effort/time/cost of working with HEAT. That holds true for about every top-25 token on the market when compared to ETH. It certainly holds true for the many, many tokens I tried to trade in Q1-Q2 of 2017. In almost every single case I would have done better and slept better had I just held ETH instead of trying to be smarter than Mr. Market.
But, I made money on all of them except one because the crypto market went up more in USD terms than any individual coin went down in ETH or BTC terms. This underlines something that I read somewhere and that I take to heart: A rising market makes everyone seem like a genius. A monkey throwing darts at a list of the top 100 cryptocurrencies last year would have doubled his money. Here’s a chart from September that shows 2017 year-to-date returns for the top 10 cryptocurrencies, and all of them went up a *lot* more between then and December. A monkey throwing darts at this list there would have quintupled his money.
When evaluating performance, then, you have to beat the monkey, and preferably you should try to beat a Wall Street monkey. I couldn’t, so I stopped trying around July 2017. My benchmark was the BLX, a DAA (Digital Asset Array – think fund like a Fidelity fund) created by ICONOMI. I wasn’t even close to beating the BLX returns, so I did several things.
  1. I went from holding about 25 different tokens to holding 10 now. More on that in a bit.
  2. I used those funds to buy ETH and BLX. ETH has done crazy-good since then and BLX has beaten BTC handily, although it hasn’t done as well as ETH.
  3. I used some of those funds to set up an arbitrage operation.
The arbitrage operation is why I kept the 11 tokens that I have now. All but a couple are used in an ETH/token pair for arbitrage, and each one of them except for one special case is part of BLX. Why did I do that? I did that because ICONOMI did a better job of picking long-term holds than I did, and in arbitrage the only speculative thing you must do is pick the pairs to trade. My pairs are (No particular order):
I also hold PLU, PLBT, and ART. These two are multi-year holds for me. I have not purchased BTC once since my initial $200, except for a few cases where BTC was the only way to go to/from an altcoin that didn’t trade against ETH yet. Right now I hold about the same 0.3BTC that I held after my first $100 purchase, so I don’t really count it.
Looking forward to this year, I am positioning myself as follows:
Looking at my notes, I have two other things that I wanted to work into this email that I didn’t get to, so here they are:
  1. Just like with free apps and other software, if you are getting something of value and you didn’t pay anything for it, you need to ask why this is. With apps, the phrase is “If you didn’t pay for the product, you are the product”, and this works for things such as pump groups, tips, and even technical analysis. Here’s how I see it.
    1. People don’t give tips on stocks or crypto that they don’t already own that stock or token. Why would they, since if they convince anyone to buy it, the price only goes up as a result, making it more expensive for them to buy in? Sure, you will have friends and family that may do this, but people in a crypto club, your local cryptocurrency meetup, or online are generally not your friends. They are there to make money, and if they can get you to help them make money, they will do it. Pump groups are the worst of these, and no matter how enticing it may look, stay as far away as possible from these scams. I even go so far as to report them when I see them advertise on FB or Twitter, because they are violating the terms of use.
    2. Technical analysis (TA) is something that has been argued about for longer than I’ve been alive, but I think that it falls into the same boat. In short, TA argues that there are patterns in trading that can be read and acted upon to signal when one must buy or sell. It has been used forever in the stock and foreign exchange markets, and people use it in crypto as well. Let’s break down these assumptions a bit.
i. First, if crypto were like the stock or forex markets we’d all be happy with 5-7% gains per year rather than easily seeing that in a day. For TA to work the same way in crypto as it does in stocks and foreign exchange, the signals would have to be *much* stronger and faster-reacting than they work in the traditional market, but people use them in exactly the same way.
ii. Another area where crypto is very different than the stock and forex markets centers around market efficiency theory. This theory says that markets are efficient and that the price reflects all the available information at any given time. This is why gold in New York is similar in price to gold in London or Shanghai, and why arbitrage margins are easily <0.1% in those markets compared to cryptoland where I can easily get 10x that. Crypto simply has too much speculation and not enough professional traders in it yet to operate as an efficient market. That fundamentally changes the way that the market behaves and should make any TA patterns from traditional markets irrelevant in crypto.
iii. There are services, both free and paid that claim to put out signals based on TA for when one should buy and sell. If you think for even a second that they are not front-running (Placing orders ahead of yours to profit.) you and the other people using the service, you’re naïve.
iv. Likewise, if you don’t think that there are people that have but together computerized systems to get ahead of people doing manual TA, you’re naïve. The guys that I have programming my arbitrage bots have offered to build me a TA bot and set up a service to sell signals once our position is taken. I said no, but I am sure that they will do it themselves or sell that to someone else. Basically they look at TA as a tip machine where when a certain pattern is seen, people act on that “tip”. They use software to see that “tip” faster and take a position on it so that when slower participants come in they either have to sell lower or buy higher than the TA bot did. Remember, if you are getting a tip for free, you’re the product. In TA I see a system when people are all acting on free preset “tips” and getting played by the more sophisticated market participants. Again, you have to beat that Wall Street monkey.
  1. If you still don’t agree that TA is bogus, think about it this way: If TA was real, Wall Street would have figured it out decades ago and we would have TA funds that would be beating the market. We don’t.
  2. If you still don’t agree that TA is bogus and that its real and well, proven, then you must think that all smart traders use them. Now follow that logic forward and think about what would happen if every smart trader pushing big money followed TA. The signals would only last for a split second and would then be overwhelmed by people acting on them, making them impossible to leverage. This is essentially what the efficient market theory postulates for all information, including TA.
OK, the one last item. Read this weekly newsletter – You can sign up at the bottom. It is free, so they’re selling something, right? 😉 From what I can tell, though, Evan is a straight-up guy who posts links and almost zero editorial comments.
Happy 2018.

I Hope Coinbase Burns In HELL for all eternity!

So I signed up for coinbase back in 2018 because in my research I read that it had the cheapest exchange rate among cyrpto exchanges, or so I thought.
About a week after I verified all of my information, and got all the way to the max account level of 3, they had increased my weekly card purchasing limit to $300.00 per week. I didn't mind this at all, even though I really only used at most $150.00 in a week's time.
After about 3 months all of a sudden my purchasing limit was reduced to $50.00 per week. So I sent in a support ticket requesting a purchasing limit increase. Then when I tried to make a purchase for that amount they locked my account and wouldn't let me purchase anything. So I sent in another support ticket. After a couple weeks of waiting I called in to find the status of my tickets. The one I sent requesting the purchase limit increase, had been assigned to a representative who was reviewing it. But he said I should have already received a response by now so he sent a follow up requesting that the person assigned to it, to contact me and let me know what was going on.
After another week my purchasing ability was restored. But my account was still at restricted to only $50.00 per week. So I bought $50.00 worth of bitcoin, this is when I found out that COINBASE is NOT an American company, they aren't even American based at all. In fact they operate out of The UK in London, or somewhere around that area, and every purchase I made with my card, also came with a foreign transaction fee. So not only were they charging me to buy the crypto, they also charged me a fee for not being in the UK. This effectively meant they were NOT THE CHEAPEST BITCOIN EXCHANGE, especially since they are CHARGING me TWICE for EVERY PURCHASE!
So now several months have gone by. I still haven't gotten a response to my purchase limit increase request, in fact they lowered it even more from $50.00 per week to $12.00 per week for card purchases. This is the absolute last straw for me.
Not only will they not raise my purchase limit back to what it was, or even up to $100.00 per week, they lowered it even more, and are charging me foreign transaction fees for every purchase that I make.
Meanwhile the newer CASH APP, >https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.squareup.cash<, from the company that brought us the square card readers for our phones, has a $10,000.00 per week card purchase limit, unlimited sells, $10,000.00 per week deposit, $2,000.00 per day max withdrawal, not to exceed $5,000.00 per week, NO foreign transaction fees whatsoever because they are an American company, based out of San Francisco California. Plus they actually have decent customer service that do respond within 24-48 hours. This may be longer over the weekend I'm not sure, but at least they actually answer and provide help.
So I've decided to say 🖕FUCK YOU COINBASE🖕! I'm done with you, cause your useless, shitty, and expensive, with hidden fees.
I'll be sticking to Cash App from now on!
