JOB SCAM?

I got a job offer from this company who said they found my resume on seek. Is this legit?
https://www.coinhome.co.nz/
They asked me for my bank info after which they'll be sending me a huge amount which i'd have to withdraw and then convert it into bitcoins using a bitrocket atm. Sounded pretty much like money laundering to me to be honest.
Thoughts?

Weekly Update: Mycro on ParJar, PAR on MetaMorphPro, new customer for Resolvr, 1UP on IDEX... – 19 Jul - 25 Jul'19

Weekly Update: Mycro on ParJar, PAR on MetaMorphPro, new customer for Resolvr, 1UP on IDEX... – 19 Jul - 25 Jul'19
Heya everyone, looks like we are in for another round of rapid catch ups on the weekly updates. Haha. Here's another exciting week at Parachute + partners (19 Jul - 25 Jul'19):

In honour of our latest partnership with Silent Notary, this week we had an SNTR Parena. Richi won the finale to take home a cool share from the 1.5M SNTR pot. The weekly Parena had a 100k PAR pot. McPrine took home the lion’s share by beating Ken in a closely fought finale. In 8 months since ParJar started, we are now at 12k users, 190k transactions and 200+ communities. Cap says: “…to put it into perspective - June 18th we were around 100k transactions and 9 k users. A month later we’ve added 3k new users (33% growth) and 80,000 new transactions”. Freaking amazing! And thank you for the shoutout aXpire! MYO (Mycro) was added to ParJar this week. And their community started experiencing the joys of tipping.
Lolarious work by @k16v5q5!
Last week MetaMorphPro did a Twitter vote to list new projects. Turns out Parachuters did PAR a solid. Woot woot! The first ever official TTR shirt is already live in the Parachute shop. Alexis announced the start of a shirt design contest to add to the TTR shirt inventory. Ian’s art quiz in TTR this week saw 25k PAR being given away to winners. Victor’s quiz had another 25k PAR pot for the winners. And Unique’s Math quiz in TTR was a 50k PAR extravaganza. All in all, 100k PAR won in quizzes in TTR this week. Sweet! Cryptonoob (Tom) set up a survey this week for “..for people who are interested in Crypto but don't know where to start..” for his work on the Parachute app UX. We all know how much Gian loves the reality show Big Brother. So we saw a new take on his Tuesday fun events. Mention your favourite reality show and what it’s all about to get some cool PAR. Yay!
A PAR coaster makes its way from design to final product in @k16v5q5’s workshop
Chris’ Golf tourney contest resulted in no winners since there were no correct guesses. So he decided to give out fun prizes instead: like Jason for coming last, Win for a “hilariously bad guess” of 100 strokes for the champions total score etc. Haha. However, there were a few top prize winners as well. LordHades, with a tournament score of 1968, took home 50k PAR as grand prize. Neat! Ali, Hang, Clinton and Tony came in close at 2nd to 5th positions. Congrats! And with that, Chris announced the start of another contest: Premier League Challenge for Parachuters (Entry code: x0zj2d) with an entry fee of 5000 PAR each. Prize pool yet to be announced. Jason is still in the lead this week in the Big Chili Race at 47 cm. Not much change either in the other plants. Slow week at Chili land.

Last week we shared that AXPR got listed on Binance Dex. The ERC20-BEP2 conversion bridge went live this week. Learn how to convert your ERC20 tokens to the BEP2 variant from the available how-to guides (article/video/gif). To mark the occasion, aXpire gave away a ton of BNB in an easter egg contest plus a 1% AXPR deposit bonus to folks who started using the bridge. Remember, we had mentioned that the reason for the weekly double burn of AXPR will be revealed this week? Well here it is. Resolvr onboarded a new client: HealthGates. More fees, more burn. Read more about it here. Woot! Victor hosted a trivia like every week on Friday at aXpire for 1000 AXPR. 10 questions. 100 AXPR each. Nice! Catch up on the week that was at aXpire from their latest video update. 2gether was selected as one of the top 100 most innovative projects by South Summit this week. Cryzen now built a Discord-Telegram chat bridge so that anything posted in either platform gets cross posted on the other. The latest WandX update covers the dev work that’s been going on for the past few weeks – support for Tezos wallet, staking live for Tezos, Livepeer and Loom etc.
2gether on South Summit’s honour roll
BOMB community member rouse wrote a quick script on how to identify and avoid common crypto scams. Have a read. As BOMB says, “Stay vigilant and always verify”. Last week's giveaway for the top lessons shared by entrepreneurs had so many good entries that the final list was expanded to 19 winners. Awesome stuff! Zach’s latest article on the difference between BOMB and BOMBX explores both the basic and the more complex distinctions. Switcheo’s introductory piece on hyperdeflationary tokens also talks at length about the BOMB project. Zach also announced the start of the Telegram Takeover Challenge this week – get new communities to experience ParJar and BOMB and earn some cool BOMB tokens in return. Win win! In preparation for the integration of the SMS feature in the Birdchain app, the team released an article on some key statistics. Here’s a video from Birdchain CEO Joao Martins discussing the feature. The latest Bounty0x distribution report can be found here. Also, check out a shoutout to the platform in this NodesOfValue article on bounty hunting opportunities.
Start of beta testing for SMS feature in Birdchain
The ETHOS Universal Wallet now supports Bitcoin Cash and Typerium. Following ETHOS’ listing on Voyager, it will also become the native token on Voyager. Switch continued its PR campaign with cover pieces on Yahoo, CCN and DDFX this week. Altcoin Buzz has a section on its site named “Community Speaks” where members of a crypto community share updates on a project they support. This week, Fantom was featured in this section. V-ID is the latest project using Fantom’s ERC20-BEP2 bridge for listing on Binance Dex. Big props to FTM for opening it up to other projects. FTM got listed on Probit and Airswap. FTM can also now be used as collateral for borrowing on the Constant platform. The Fantom Foundation joined the Australian Digital Commerce Association which works on regulatory advocacy in blockchain. This was also a perfect setting for the Fantom Innovation Labs team to attend the APAC Blockchain Conference in Sydney. Here’s a report. In this week’s techno-literature, have a read of the various Fantom mainnets and the TxFlow protocol by clicking here and here respectively.
Another proposed token utility of ETHOS
Uptrennd’s 1UP token was listed on IDEX this week. To put it simply, the growth at Uptrennd Twitter has been explosive. Check out these numbers. Awesome stats! This free speech vs fair pay chart shared by Jeff explains why the community backs the platform. About 96% of 1UP issued this week has been used to level up on Uptrennd. Want a recap of the latest at Uptrennd? Click here. Crypto influencer Didi Taihuttu and his family (The Bitcoin Family) joined the platform this week. Congrats once again to Horizon State for making it to the finals of The Wellington Gold Awards. Some great networking opportunities and exposure right there. If you have been lagging behind on HST news, the latest community update covers the past month. We had also mentioned last week that Horizon State is conducting a vote for The Opportunities Party in New Zealand. Here’s a media report on it. Catch up on the latest at District0xverse from their Weekly and Dev updates. The Meme Factory bot was introduced this week to track new memes and marketplace trends on Meme Factory. The HYDRO article contest started last week was extended to the 27th. 50k HYDRO in prizes to be won. Noice! Hydrogen got nominated as a Finalist to the 2019 FinXTech Awards. HYDRO was also listed on the HubrisOne wallet this week. And finally, here’s a closer look at the Hydro Labs team. The folks who make the magic happen. Sup guys!

OPERATION LIFEBOAT. SOS contact exchanges to use BCH pairs now

This is an emergency alert: Calling all tweeters, traders, meme makers, and concerned customers.

WE NEED TROOPS TO PARTICIPATE IN OPERATION LIFEBOAT. (https://i.redd.it/y717a2t2gemy.jpg)
Problem: The prices of most crypto coins are going down. Why? BTC is a failure (obsolete technology, slow, has high fees, & taken over by banker mafias).
Yet Exchanges still use BTC as the primary trading pair for other coins. This means that everyone is forced to used BTC; and it means that when BTC goes down, everything goes down.
Solution: Obtain independence from BTC trading pairs – by getting exchanges to use BCH pairs. I.e. we need a lifeboat to get off the sinking BTC fail ship.

CALL TO ACTION:

We need our soldiers to contact major exchanges and tell them to immediately offer BCH trading pairs – since BTC is a failure and hurting everyone.

SAMPLES OF WHAT TO SAY:

 1. Consumers demand that you give us #BCH trading pairs. BTC is a failure & hurting all. #OperationLifeboat #BchConvert #SaveCrypto
 2. BTC is a failure & crashing all markets because #Exchanges like yours don't offer #BCH pairs. Fix please! #OperationLifeboat #BchConvert #SaveCrypto
 3. What year are you in? This is 2018. All the best #Exchanges have #BCH trading pairs. You want more money, we want less fees. Duh. #OperationLifeboat #BchConvert #SaveCrypto
 4. Why you discriminating against BCH trading pairs? Dats racist! #BchTradingPairsMatter #OperationLifeboat #BchConvert #SaveCrypto

CONTACT STEPS (Achievement unlocks):

 1. Twitter
 2. Email (list of more here https://www.reddit.com/btc/comments/7qu5bf/here_is_a_big_list_of_contact_information_fo)
 3. Post at different Reddits to raise awareness in all communities. btc, all, bitcoinmarkets, et al.
 4. Post a meme of the sinking BTC ship & reasons to get on the BCH lifeboat. (add text to https://i.redd.it/y717a2t2gemy.jpg)
 5. Post on other social media like Instagram, Facebook, et al.

NEW TO BCH? WHAT IS BITCOIN CASH?:

Bitcoin cash (BCH) is the upgraded bitcoin. The current Bitcoin Core (BTC) was taken over by banker types who sabotaged the real bitcoin, to make it slow and cost a lot.
Core kicked out the original bitcoin dev team, and changed the programming. Their reddit will ban you if you ask comparison questions or why BTC has problems.

Why should you get into a good crypto like Bitcoin Cash?

Get freedom from the gov, avoid banker and paypal fees, earn profit, and it's easy to use. Bitcoin Cash has all the same qualities and major brand recognition of the original Bitcoin, but with upgraded tech for 2018.
The US dollar value is going down – so you are loosing money by doing nothing with it. If you buy 1 BCH now, then in 6 months it can be worth $10,000 – because it will replace the failed BTC. (BTC went up to $20,000 before people realized how much it sucks).

7 Reasons Why North Queensland Merchants Only Accept Bitcoin Cash BCH

Many merchants in North Queensland are choosing to accept only Bitcoin Cash. North Queensland is also seeing the appearance of Bitcoin Cash only ATMs. As these merchants are well informed and well organized, why are they choosing to concentrate on Bitcoin Cash BCH for their electronic commerce needs? Here are a few points that I have garnered to help explain their approach:
 1. Bitcoin Cash is designed from the Genesis block to be a peer-to-peer electronic cash system and thus excels at electronic commerce. By simply choosing to only support BCH, the merchants are not giving up any real capability.
 2. The merchant's customer-payment-experience is greatly influenced by the ease & speed of the exchange. As Bitcoin Cash has a fast 0-conf payment capability, merchants jeopardize this speed advantage when supporting other cryptos.
 3. Given the large numbers of cryptos and typically their low usage frequency, the merchant is not gaining a proportional benefit for the added cost, complexity and training needed for their support.
 4. It is logical that visitors to North Queensland convert their BTC, LTC etc., to BCH once rather than incumber every point-of-sale system with an extra step and complication of choosing a crypto with each payment.
 5. There are excellent online services readily available to the tourist to convert their BTC, LTC etc., to BCH for use during their visit to North Queensland.
 6. Concentrating on just Bitcoin Cash BCH allows the North Queensland merchant groups to eliminate a large amount of customer confusion and more easily provide technical support for their merchant members.
 7. Concentrating on just Bitcoin Cash BCH greatly increases the efficiency of any promotion and even the promotion of North Queensland itself as a Bitcoin Cash friendly tourist destination.
The proof of the approach is open for the world to see. North Queensland has the highest per capita bricks-and-mortar merchant adoption in the world.

whalecoin generating bot (sells for bitcoin)

What is this
This is a way of automating a system that the WhaleCoin developers have implemented to generate whalecoin.
There is an official whalecoin generating bot that most people don't know how to get started as its kind of complicated and also limited functionality wise. There is also a community created bot that is much better and easy to use and I'll teach you how to in this post. The bot and instructions on how to set it up can be found here but keep reading for some more details on how to get it started.
This is how my bot looks in the browser currently.
As you can see I have 26 000 whl in total which at the time of writing are worth around 0.00000200 bitcoin each, that makes it worth about $335 USD. This is from running the bot little over 2 weeks so I estimate about $50 - $150 USD per week ($200 - $600 per month) if I keep my computer on constantly. How much you get varies and I seem to get 4000 - 10 000 whl/week.
How does this work
How this works exactly is not required to get this working but it might feel better understanding what you are doing. WhaleCoin works in such ways that an account which is what they call a whale can create what they call a post and then that whale could also follow that post. When this whale creates a post it gets a passive income of whalecoin for around 3.5 days. This is also when the post can be claimed (3.5 days after it was created). Claiming a post gives rewards to its follower, which can be yourself, and this bot automates this process to quickly create posts on your whale account, makes sure that your whale accounts follows the post and also claims it for you around 3.5 days later.
As you can see on my screenshot I now have 232 accounts running the bot. This is good because of the passive whalecoin accumulation from post creation as I mentioned above (more posts on one whale account does not give faster passive income but having more whale accounts do). That is a second type of reward apart from claiming, that you get per whale account that has created one post within the last 3.5 days.
I hope it makes sense and that this helps at least someone out there. All source codes are visible on the link so anybody who can read code can ensure it's not a scam or a hack.
Any questions on how to get started can be done in this thread or if you need more assistance you can add Gatsu#4926 and talk to me on discord.
If you are interested in this I suggest you get started immediately because the bot will not work forever. The whalecoin developers might change how their system works making the bot unusable. Though it has been working for quite some time and I have not seen any signs of developer progress during this time so chances are big that you'll make some nice profits before it ends.
Whalecoin can be sold for bitcoin here (non ref link). Another picture that shows how much WHL I have gathered and send to cryptopia, waiting to get sold for a better price than around 0.00000200 can be found here.
If you have a really old and slow computer you might feel some performance affected by this bot, especially during the node synchronization.
How to get started from the beginning
Steps to make the process as simple as possible from the beginning.
Next you would want to convert those wallets to whals. This will lock 1000 coins (you can unlock them and stop being a whale whenever you want) by going to the network site (keep reading if the site isn't working).
On the network site
If you get "true" it means your account has locked 1000 coins to become a whale. If it says "false" you have to wait a minute and try checking again.
When your account is a whale
If the network site is down
The bot can be used to create whale accounts which is a great alternative to using the network site which might be offline right now. This requires you to have the node synced and the bot started.
When you have at least "Accounts: 2" in the "Stats" box you are ready to turn all "Services" on and wait for your whalecoin to start growing.

Why North Queensland Merchants Switched To Bitcoin BCH Only

North Queensland Merchants are choosing only Bitcoin BCH for their crypto payment option. North Queensland is also the home of Bitcoin BCH only ATMs. Here are 5 reasons why :
 1. Bitcoin BCH is designed from the Genesis Block to be a peer-to-peer electronic cash system and a game-changer for electronic commerce. Merchants supporting only Bitcoin BCH are not giving up any real capability.
 2. Given that most other cryptos have low usage frequency, merchants do not gain a proportional benefit for the additional cost, complexity and staff training needed for their support.
 3. The merchant's customer-payment-experience (CX) is almost entirely about speed. Supporting additional cryptos sacrifices the Bitcoin BCH 0-conf speed advantage vital for making rapid headway against banking systems such as payWave.
 4. Accepting only Bitcoin BCH actually uses the Bitcoin BTC settlement system as intended. Customers need only convert BTC once and use BCH with many merchants.
 5. Accepting only Bitcoin BCH allows the North Queensland merchant groups to reduce customer confusion and more readily provide technical support and promotion for their merchant members.
The proof of the approach is open for the world to see. North Queensland has the highest per-capita bricks-and-mortar merchant adoption in the world and is growing a staggering 37% per month.

State of the Libertarian Movement

I think it is time we provided an update on where we are as a movement.
I will break this down into pieces. Additionally, I will include my own observations and suggestions:
Seasteading
Seasteading is progressing faster than any other direct action undertaken by this movement. Anenome5 has established a company called Ventive Floathouse. This company endeavors to establish the first seastead in Richardson Bay, off the coast of California. It will be a visa haven, appealing to those attempting to bypass America's ornery visa requirements. In the following years after this island has been established, Ventive Floathouse will attempt to build the first seastead in international waters, which will be explicitly anarcho-capitalist. They are currently $450k away from funding the first seastead in Richardson Bay. They are currently testing the design of the island and will not begin accepting funding until testing has been completed. If you or anyone you know would be interested in investing in this project, contact Anenome5 through the website link provided above.
The Seasteading Institute has achieved a Memorandum of Understanding with the French Polynesian government. This Memorandum has been criticized by some within the FP government and the FP public, as seen in this article. Regardless, it appears that the project is moving forward. The plan is to create 12 artificial islands within 1 mile of the FP coastline, funded by investors and an ICO. The project is projected to be completed by 2020, however only time will tell if the Institute will meet that deadline.
In other news, a corporation has officially began marketing artificial islands for the price of 300 million dollars, see here. Their target consumers are the ultra-rich. This suggests that, in the coming decades, seasteading will become an increasingly viable alternative to buying an island.
Suggestions: Support Ventive Floathouse in any way you can. Be the change you want to see. This may be our best shot at establishing an anarcho-capitalist society within the next two decades.
Libertarian Party of the United States of America
In the Presidential Election of 2016, the LPUSA achieved 3.2 percent of the popular vote, a total of 4,042,291 voters. This is a significant improvement over the 2012 election, in which roughly 1 million people voted for the LPUSA. The real challenge will be repeating this success in the next election. Gary Johnson has announced that he will not be running for president in 2020.
The LPUSA has announced its intention to get 2,000 candidates on the ballot for the 2018 elections. Whether or not this will occur remains to be seen.
Despite achieving 3.2 percent of the popular vote, the LPUSA is still struggling to acquire permanent ballot access in all 50 states. The LPUSA currently has ballot access in a majority of states.
In the aftermath of the 2016 National Convention, the LPUSA has been experiencing somewhat of an identity crisis. A fat individual in a speedo danced on stage while the event was broadcast live on CSPAN, significantly tarnishing the reputation of the party. Anarcho-capitalists were widely blamed by moderate libertarians for this incident, despite our outright condemnation of said incident. Libertarians are in the process of deciding whether the party should be radical or moderate in its message and platform. The majority of libertarians wish to see the LPUSA become more moderate, and to abandon such phrases as "Taxation is Theft". There is even a socialist caucus within the Libertarian Party.
In an attempt to preserve the radical libertarian and anarcho-capitalist elements within the LPUSA, the Mises Caucus has been established. Together with the Radical Caucus, these organizations seek to promote radical libertarianism and to elect party officials and political candidates who will represent them.
The Libertarian National Committee is comprised of 8 representatives from 8 regions. Region 1, based in Colorado, is represented by an anarcho-capitalist named Caryn Ann Harlos. I do not know if any of the other committee members are anarcho-capitalists.
in 2014, the former chairman of the Libertarian Party Geoff Neale made history when he was appointed to establish the International Alliance of Libertarian Parties. This is the first attempt by the libertarian parties of the world to coordinate internationally.
Suggestions: Libertarians should seek a moderate platform while maintaining a radical message. Efforts should be made to appeal to a majority of voters while raising the libertarian consciousness of the population to the highest degree possible. Libertarians should focus primarily on running in state and local elections in an attempt to maximize our influence on the American population.
The Free State Project
Thousands of libertarians have moved to New Hampshire in an attempt to influence the politics of the state towards a more libertarian direction. Libertarians have run as republicans and democrats and been successfully elected to office. Statist laws have been repealed and more libertarian laws have been enacted, such as protections for Bitcoin sellers.
Suggestions: Libertarians should move to New Hampshire in greater numbers and run for positions in the local and state governments. Organizations should be established to carry out activism, namely:
And more. Which brings me to my next topic:
Activism
Libertarians, especially outside of NH, have engaged in very little activism. This is due to both a lack of organization and a lack of ideas. Meanwhile, non-libertarians have been engaging in activism that might interest radical libertarians. An example of this are the intermittent property tax protests that have swept across parts of rural America.
Suggestions: Libertarians should seek to emulate the Chicago Tax Strike of 1977. Libertarian organizations should hold town hall meetings about issues that concern the public, such as high property taxes, and attempt to radicalize the public toward direct action, such as a protest or tax strike. Once direct action is underway, libertarians should seek to raise the libertarian consciousness of the disgruntled masses. For example, if people are protesting high property taxes, you can attempt to turn their attention (and anger) to the recipients of those taxes, such as the education system. Instead of being angry about just property taxes, you can make them angry at the public schools who receive it (and waste the money). In this manner, you will raise the libertarian consciousness of the protesters. We must always seek to radicalize and raise the libertarian consciousness of the American people.
Which brings me to a classic example of what we are trying to achieve:
Free Brazil Movement
A few years ago, the Atlas Network and a coalition of charitable organizations provided millions of dollars in funding and a number of activist leaders to think tanks in Brazil. The provision of funding and leaders culminated in the establishment of the Free Brazil Movement, led by Kim Kataguiri. With the support of the Atlas Network and affiliated think tanks, they were able to mobilize many tens of thousands of Brazilian citizens to take to the streets and protest against the socialist government.
The Free Brazil Movement organized the demonstrations of 15 March and 12 April in 2015 against the social governmental establishment of Dilma Rousseff and the Workers' Party, and was instrumental in the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff. See article and video here.
In the aftermath of the uprising, thousands of Brazilians have converted to libertarianism. Some of them are English speakers who frequent this subreddit's Discord Server.
Suggestions: Do everything within your power to support the blossoming libertarian movement in Brazil. Learn Portuguese, translate literature to Portuguese, print flyers and posters in their language, and donate to libertarian institutions in Brazil. Libertarianism is now an international movement, and it is time we acted like one. Emulate their success in raising the libertarian consciousness of the masses, to such a degree that thousands of libertarians were born. And above all, let us work together. Americans and Brazilians, hand in hand!
Students for Liberty
SFL has evolved into a decentralized international organization, with chapters ranging from America to Brazil to Europe and Asia. Gone are the days when SFL was a small organization; it is now a massive organization with thousands of members across the world. SFL represents the spearhead of the libertarian student movement, providing a presence on college campuses and aiding in the recruitment of new libertarians.
Suggestions: We must do everything in our power to build the libertarian student movement. If you are on college campus, it is in your best interest to organize with other libertarians and engage in whatever activism and propaganda dissemination you can. We must build a Student Libertarian Action Movement (SLAM) on every college campus that we can.
Free Society Foundation
Roger Ver and a group of wealthy individuals have raised 100 million dollars in an attempt to purchase sovereignty from a host nation. While the odds of this succeeding are slim, this amounts to the largest holding of capital ever accumulated by a group of anarcho-capitalists. This money could easily be spent on seasteading, activism, advertising, and more.
Suggestions: Let this serve as an example for others to follow. When we pool our money together and raise capital, we can accomplish great things.
Crypto-Anarchism and Crypto-currencies
Bitcoin has come a long way in the last few years. The price has soared and it is beginning to see widespread adoption. It has also given birth to a multitude of new crypto-currencies, such as BCH, Litecoin, Monero, Ethereum, Ripple, etc. Gone are the days when bitcoin was a secret treasure of libertarians. It has now been co-opted by the average joe, for better or worse. Some libertarians argue that this transition, combined with increasing state regulations on crypto-currency, has challenged Bitcoin’s revolutionary nature. But with new currencies like Monero offering the promise of anonymity, many libertarians believe the full revolutionary potential of crypto-currencies has yet to be realized.
The NSA revelations of recent years have resulted in the popularization of crypto-graphic tools, such as Signal, TOR, I2P, etc. Mass surveillance has provoked a widespread counter-surveillance movement.
The Silk Road is long gone, but on the horizon is a new innovation- the Open Bazaar. Decentralized, reputation-based, and incorporating the use of 3rd party arbitration, the combination of software like Open Bazaar with anonymizing tools will facilitate the establishment of an anarcho-capitalist marketplace on the internet.
In the last few years, we have seen the innovation of new ways of engaging in market activities and contractual arrangements, from smart contracts to multi-sig. With these developments destined to advance, the future of crypto-anarchism looks promising.
Suggestions: Spread the word about Open Bazaar and cryptographic tools. Warn others about the NSA in the hopes that it will entice others to begin using such tools. Help to develop the latest in cryptographic tools and protocols so that we may ore effectively establish radical libertarianism on the internet.
Agorism and Crypto-Agorism
Despite a large number of libertarians claiming to be Agorists, very few libertarians abide by the founding document of Agorism, the New Libertarian Manifesto. Most libertarians do not engage in Agorist praxis beyond holding cryptocurrency and retreating to rural homesteads to live in isolation. The strategy of Agorism traditionally requires organization on the part of New Libertarians. Instead, libertarians seem to have adopted a new strategy, referred to as Crypto-Agorism. Crypto-Agorism is a merger of the strategy of Agorism with Crypto-Anarchism. In other words, it is the attempt to realize Agorism on the internet, through the use of tools such as Monero and the Open Bazaar. While Crypto-Agorism blossoms, traditional Agorism appears to be stagnating.
Suggestions: Crypto-Agorism should continue to be pursued. However, libertarians must organize into chapters of the New Libertarian Alliance, participate in counter-economics (beyond the use of cryptographic tools and currencies) and build alternative institutions if we are to truly develop the counter-economy beyond the confines of the internet.
Conclusion
There is more than I could write about, but I will stop there. The next decade will be a turning point for the libertarian movement. Are we prepared to organize, raise capital, build alternative institutions, and ultimately construct a free society? Only time will tell.

Why is bitnz trading value so low?

Bitstamp is floating around US$820 and at the current exchange rate that should translate to around NZ$1k though it's sitting under NZ$900.
Seems a bit strange to me, has there been some local news I've missed?

EOT - Encryption of things

**EOT - Encryption of things**
There is a huge surge in devices attached to the internet, known as the Internet of Things, and it is estimated that over 80 Billion devices will be connected to the internet by 2025, from industrial machines to devices in our home. The constant hacking and cyber attacks have increased not only the demand but the necessity of secure solutions. Our privacy and digital footprint are at risk.
Some examples where encryption plays a role:
Secure messaging - To make messages truly secure we need a process whereby a cryptography can be applied to encrypt transaction.
Secure calling - Secure calling is a process whereby the caller and the recipient of the call are identified and linked via a blockchain enabled cryptocurrency transfer, again creating public and private encryption keys making the call truly private.
Secure media storage - To safely and securely store media a process is required where 1.) Access to the media is encrypted via public and private keys of the person wanting to store the media. 2.) The media itself needs to be encrypted with a set of encryption keys and 3.) Media storage costs need to be paid via cryptocurrency
Secure browsing - To browse the internet securely we need to create a process of verification whereby nodes on the blockchain can verify websites as “safe”. Furthermore, the entire process needs to be encrypted as well.
Verification - This is one of the most important uses of a blockchain, we can verify websites as in the example above but also various other things such as identity, title and ownership, date stamps and source of products as with the verification of the source of agricultural or other products. These are just a few examples. All of this data needs to be encrypted as well.
“Smart home” security - Wi-Fi is often used for remote monitoring and control. Home devices, when remotely monitored and controlled via the Internet, are an important constituent of the Internet of Things - all needing encryption, otherwise, hackers paradise.
EOT in the future - The examples we mentioned above are only “scratching the surface” of where these technologies are applicable and who knows what will be invented in future. Google, Apple and Uber are all testing cars that drive themselves. A major issue with this technology is again the security aspect and the need to protect against hacking and who want’s to get into a spaceship to Mars that might be hacked or hijacked by ransomware?
So the future for the “Encryption of Things” – EOT, looks very interesting indeed and the role of crypto currencies in this will be major.

Some Helpful Information
You have been keeping a great secret.
I've been doing a bit of research with the technology behind this coin. It looks like ALOT of research has gone into this tech, since about 2004 and shortly after a patent for this P2P system was quickly issued.
Bitvault (https://swissbankinyourpocket.com/product/bitvault/) who are using the worlds first blockchain phone as a secure communication device and ultimately taking encryption to the Internet Of Things (IoT) keeping our personal and business data secure. All this is done using EOT coin (Encryption of Things).
In todays world insecure devices are rampant. Here are a couple of links about the CIA being able to use insecure devices to 'cause accidents' http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/cyber-life/sd-me-wikileaks-cia-20170307-story.html and https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/innovations/wp/2017/03/08/what-we-know-about-car-hacking-the-cia-and-those-wikileaks-claims/
It's scary to think a legal entity could posses such power over life. Just the mere fact alone the governing authority can request phone records (e.g. txt msgs, voice msgs or eavesdropping) proves most if not all telecommunication companies do not encrypt, otherwise whats the point on requesting the information!? (legal or not).
Commercially sensitive information needs to be protected and most importantly in my opinion our rights and the privacy of all citizens of the human race need to be protected.
From my understanding BitVault is a platform for reference data. This would be data that is stored for compliance reasons such as e-mails, invoicing systems and check imaging (e.g. high quality imaging for x-rays, MRI scans etc) and a prototype was developed in 2004. This would means massive amount of data storage is required with fail-safe systems so a authorised user could access this information very very quickly.
Three goals were needed to be achieved: Low cost, high reliability/availability and simplicity. This is the birth of Bitvault via EOT.
Bitvault ultimately stores immutable objects with each new version being updated and identified with a 160-bit key.
System stability is very important and must be immune to failure sequences. Parallel repair via indexing is one of the many strengths Bitvault has been able to demonstrate.
BitVault is a back-end system that uses Applications to catalog object ID's. Using a catalog utility and indexing within an application prevented scalability bottlenecking under heavy loads.
Fast forward 3 years to 2007 a very important decision was to decentralise BitVaults system. This in my opinion is one of the fundamental principles of cryptocurrency - No one entity or person has any control of the data stored and only the authorised user can access this info. Ultimate Security and thus personal safety (see above articles CIA hacks). BitVault using applications have been able to use provable communication and data storage with ease of retrieval with vital security measures.
BitVault is not alone in researching solutions for security for the IoT, such as Venti and the like are making progress, however, BitVault is 'head and shoulders' above the few competitors and are already offering practical working solutions on the market with huge scalability that is cost effective.
Well Done BitVault, well done EOT your secret is out and let the world embrace.

I have had a response in Slack and it has satisfied my questions. Thank-you.
For everyone information here it is:
The currency was created with 200 Million EOT total supply on 7 July 2017 [ we showed it to the community a London Fintech week with the demonstration of the BitVault - fintechweek.com ]
100 Million was pre-mined and another 100 Million are currently being mined, 1 block every 90 seconds @ 100 coins per block.
So the pre-mined coins were listed on waves as a token so that it can create a market for the coins while we are working to get listed on other exchanges.
The 100 Million coins listed were distributed in several ways. Firstly, this was not an ICO because our business is already funded via private capital. We wanted to get the currency distributed a widely as possible. So most of the initial coins were given away to a number of interested parties. We distributed this to our whole development team, business partners, employees as well as to the waves and other communities. So we did not sell all these coins for the current price, most of it was given away for free to people that have an interest in our products and business. The price now is formed by whoever owns these coins.
The tokens on the exchange is really a representation of the currency and as such has value because it can be interchanged, just like Bitcoin and Ethereum are on the waves exchange. This whole process is explained on page 4 of the waves whitepaper, I think they call it an asset-to-asset exchange which makes it possible to list any asset that exist on waves. Unfortunately waves only has gateways currently for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Waves, Euro and USD, so we have to develop our own gateway, which will be available on Nov 1.
So to clarify 100,000,000 tokens costing $190M were not sold. It is a combination of airdrops, private sales and sales on the exchange.
Some EOT coins are needed because: "A lot of EOT will be distributed through our devices. For example our encrypted routers are pre-loaded with EOT, so we need that stock and it will be distributed that way".
And with the response to tokens on the Waves Exchange "This is how Bitcoin works on waves: - They created 21 Million BTC Tokens.. When you deposit Bitcoin into waves account, you receive an equal amount of tokens which you can either trade or even sent via the waves blockchain to another user.. Once you withdraw your tokens are exchanged for BTC and you receive it back into your BTC wallet.. Exactly the same for USD or EUR - You don't send Euro's to another client on waves if you transfer - you send a token that represents EUR -- This works exactly the w0083".
These are the answers I was looking for and make a lot of sense now. This is indeed an exciting project. :)
It's time to trade....
Now I have one question left....
Is there anyone using NiceHash to mine this coin?? I keep being disconnected because of the difficulty being too low. Can any one help?
EOT (coin) is now tradable on the CryptoBridge Decentralised Exchange, you can sign up below.
Please note this is for the EOT COIN ONLY, do not send tokens to this dex. This is a secure means to trade with the backend being on a blockchain. It is still in beta stage but has been working flawlessly so far. If you'd like more info I will post their website link is below.

A bot that generates whalecoin (sells for bitcoin)

What is this
This is a way of automating a system that the WhaleCoin developers have implemented to generate whalecoin.
There is an official whalecoin generating bot that most people don't know how to get started as its kind of complicated. There is also a community created bot that is much better and easy to use. It can be found here.
This is how my bot looks in the browser currently.
As you can see I have 26 000 whl in total which at the time of writing are worth 0.00000200 bitcoin each, that makes it worth about $335 USD. This is from running the bot little over 2 weeks so I estimate about $150 USD per week ($600 per month if I keep my computer on constantly) using this.
You need 2 whale accounts for this bot to work. This means that you'd have to buy little over 2000 whl and use 1000 whl on each account to convert them in to what they call "whale". Know that you need some whl left over on your whale account, I suggest having around 100 whl extra on each account when you are first starting to bot.
How does this work
WhaleCoin works in such ways that an account that is a whale can create what they call a "post" and then that whale can also follow that post. When this whale creates a post it gets a passive income of whalecoin for around 3.5 days. This is also when the post can be "claimed". Claiming a post gives rewards to its follower which can be yourself and this bot automates this process to quickly create posts on your whale account, makes sure that your whale accounts follows it and also claims it for you 3.5 days later.
As you can see on my screenshot I now have 232 accounts running the bot. This is good because the passive whalecoin accumilation from post creation as I mentioned above. That is a second type of reward apart from claiming that you get per whale account that has created a post so right now I have 232 whale accounts that gather whalecoins quite rapidly. None of the whl that you see in my screenshot are from the post creation reward, it is purely from claiming so I'm sure there are at least 20 000 more whl waiting to be claimed as I have not claimed the reward that gives from posts in a while.
I hope it makes sense and that this helps at least someone out there. All source codes are visible on the link so anybody who can read code can ensure it's not a hack.
Any questions on how to get started, ask me here, I will try to be active in this thread. I am currently running this bot on two computers and my laptop which has 10 whale accounts on it also gets around 10 000 whl each week from posting, following and claiming posts.
If you are interested I suggest you get started because the bot will not work forever. The whalecoin developers might change how their system works making the bot unusable.
Whalecoin can be sold for bitcoin here (non ref link). Another picture that shows how much WHL I have on cryptopia, waiting to get sold for a better price than 0.00000200 can be found here.
If you have a really old and slow computer you might feel some performance affected by this bot.
How to get started from the beginning
First you'd want to create a whalecoin wallet here. When you have this wallet you'd want to get 2200 whl which you can buy from here by going to Exchange -> Market -> Search for WHL. After you have sent those 2060 to your whalecoin wallet you would want to create one more whalecoin wallet and send half of what you have so you have 2 wallets with 1100 whl each. Make sure you always save your passwords, private keys and addresses.
Next you would want to convert those wallets to "whale" wallets. This will lock 1000 coins (you can unlock them and stop being a whale whenever you want) by going to the network site. On the network site:
If you get "true" it means your account has locked 1000 coins to become a whale. After that you press V4 at top -> Social Network -> Whale Actions -> put your whale address, your private key and then your whale address again. Do this with all whalecoin wallets that you own and want to convert to whales.
Next you can more easily start following the description on the link where you download the bot.
3 hours after this post was created
You can now see here that I've earned about 800 whl in 3 hours. That makes 6400 whl/24 hours which I don't know why I'd get so much more than expected. I know for a fact that not many users use this bot so I am barely getting any dev fee out of it. It might just be a really good time to bot.

PIVX Welcomes You! Newcomers Please Read

PIVX is an instantly locked, fungible and private digital currency. Built on the quark algorithm, PIVX is the first POS coin running on the current Bitcoin Core.

KEY PROPERTIES OF PIVX

Open Source: You can read the source code yourself here.
Instant Transactions: This technology will allow PIVX to be used for point-of-sale situations where a locked payment is sent in about 1 second, while not being exposed to double spends that other cryptos are susceptible to.
Private Transactions is the feature that gives PIVX users a high degree of privacy when they use it. Based on CoinJoin, but is heavily modified with mixing ahead of the transaction and other major improvements. Fungibility is the result of offering Private Transaction mixing on the network. Erasing the history of each PIVX transaction before you spend it makes your PIVX just as valuable as anyone else’s. No more tainted funds.

HOW CAN I ACQUIRE PIVX?

Purchasing bitcoin and converting to PIVX or buying PIVX directly with FIAT is the fastest way to get some.
WHERE CAN I CONVERT MY BITCOIN TO PIVX? Here is a list of exchanges that trade PIVX.
WHERE CAN I BUY PIVX WITH TRADITIONAL CURRENCY?
Note: The author is not responsible for any loss or damages caused due to using the above. Please perform due diligence before opting for any of the above, and, indeed, all others services.
A list of all the PIVX markets can be found here
MASTERNODES (EARNING PIVX) As stated earlier, PIVX is a privacy-centric, instant and innovative digital currency that seeks to solve the drawbacks of Bitcoin. These improvements are achieved primarily through a layer of users hosting servers that provide services on top of PIVX which are called Masternodes. Masternode owners also have to deposit a stake of their PIVX (10,000 PIVX which is worth about $70 USD at the time of writing ) and temporarily locks it up to host a Masternode. This prevents people from easily creating a Masternode in order to game the security of the system.
Masternode owners can also take part in the governance process of the digital currency through a "Budget System" for which each Masternode has one vote. If you cannot set up your own Masternode you could turn to a Masternode Service Provider (MSP). There are likely more Masternode hosting providers available, but 2 well known providers are listed below.
Coin-Server Node Hosting Service MP-Node Hosting Service

PIVX WALLETS

A PIVX wallet is made up of two halves. One is the public, shareable part called the public key. The other is the private part that is required for spending the stored PIVX in that wallet. If one wants to receive PIVX in one’s wallet, one should only provide the public half of their wallet. Think of the public part of a PIVX wallet as your email address and the private part of the PIVX wallet as the password to that email address: you can share the email address freely, but not the password.
Download the PIVX-QT Wallet here. Connect with PIVX socially, here's a list with all the PIVX social profiles.
The PIVX Website is here! Welcome to PIVX! The PIVX Slack channel is available here! The PIVX Twitter account is here! Remember to #PIVXCrypto The PIVX Forum on BitcoinTalk is here.

Where to buy Reddcoin

Below is a list of websites/services that can be used to buy RDDs (Reddcoin). It's mostly intended for newcomers and for those that want to buy RDDs but don't know where or how.

If you are missing information or have an addition or correction, please post in this thread. I'll try to keep this post updated. Also, post any questions you have!

Fiat currency - direct

Examples of fiat currency: USD (United States dollar), EUR (euro), GBP (pound sterling). This section covers buying Reddcoin directly with fiat currency, so (for example) without buying BTC (Bitcoin) first.

Bitvavo.com

Litebit.eu

Coinspot

KoinOK

Fiat currency - indirect

This section covers buying Reddcoin indirectly with fiat currency. This means buying a major cryptocurrency first (like BTC (Bitcoin) or ETH (Ethereum)) with fiat currency, and then buying Reddcoin with that major cryptocurrency. So, for example: USD -> BTC; BTC -> RDD. Use the exchanges at the bottom to buy RDDs (Reddcoin) with a major cryptocurrency (like BTC (Bitcoin)).

Coinbase

Blockchain.info

BTCDirect.eu

Coinmama

Exchanges

Reddcoin Wiki page about exchanges: https://wiki.reddcoin.com/Exchanges.

An exchange is traditionally an online market where a various cryptocurrencies are bought and sold. Exchanges bring together a groups of sellers and buyers to facilitate the trading of currencies. Exchanges offer different tools to help the traders, (both the buyers and the sellers).
Most markets offer cryptocurrencies to cryptocurrencies trading with some markets offering Fiat to cryptocurrencies and vice-versa.

All of the exchanges above support trading from/to RDD (Reddcoin).

Instant exchanges These are exchanges you can use without creating an account; can be used when anonimity is needed. These exchanges do not have a wallet, they merely convert one currency to another.

Exchanges above support exchanging from/to RDD (Reddcoin).

Exchange aggregators These are websites that do not trade directly in cryptocoins themselves, but rather compare rates across exchanges and find the best exchange rate for you.

Deloitte partner's interpretation of IRD announcement "if you simply hodl, then any unrealised gains won't be subject to tax"

From this recent Newsroom article: https://www.newsroom.co.nz/2018/04/09/102989/whats-missing-in-the-irds-crypto-guidance#
I reached out to Deloitte Private partner Ian Fay, who specialises in tax, for comment. He noted the IRD is not treating cryptocurrency as "currency" or a "financial arrangement," which means "if there's any tax that's going to arise, it's only going to arise when you dispose of a crypto asset."
So in other words, if you simply hold - or "hodl" as they say in crypto circles - your virtual currencies, then any unrealised gains won't be subject to tax.
Also:
Perhaps the most surprising aspect of the IRD's announcement is you won't be able to escape your tax obligations by not converting your cryptocurrency back into fiat. So if you originally bought some bitcoins and later traded those for an equivalent amount of Ether, you'll have to calculate your profits (or otherwise) in NZD and declare that to the IRD.

Hi I'm The MoinTipBot!

MOINcointip bot documentation

Intro

First

This software is open source, all credit goes to http://www.reddit.com/ALTcointip/ including this wiki entry. Please donate.

How It Works

MoinTipBot bot allows Redditors to gift (tip) Moin to each other as a way of saying thanks. In order to tip others, you need to +register and deposit some coins into provided deposit addresses. If you've received a tip and haven't registered yet, you need to +accept it first, which creates an account for you. You can then +withdraw coins and/or send tips with +mointipbot command to other Redditors.
How Can I Get Some MOIN?
So, How Can I Convert MOIN to/from US Dollars?
The best way to convert any alt-coin to/from USD is through Bitcoins. You first exchange your cryptocoin to Bitcoins, and then sell Bitcoins for cash (or reverse). Some exchanges that allow you to convert between MOIN and Bitcoins are:
Here are some well-known Bitcoin exchanges to buy/sell Bitcoins:

Warning

This service is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, either express or implied, including, without limitation, the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, error-free or uninterrupted service. You are using this service at your own risk; in addition, the coins in your account are only as secure as your Reddit account is. Do not hold large sums of coins here; simply withdraw or tip others.

Subreddits

MoinTipBot is enabled in the /moin subreddit only

Commands

Personal Message Commands

+register: create an account. The bot will generate a unique MOIN address for you and send you that info.
+info: get information about the account: moin address, balances.
+withdraw: tell the bot to send MOIN to a given address. Its syntax is:
+withdraw ADDRESS [AMOUNT] MOIN
Note: Network transaction fee is automatically added to when sending to an address. For example, if you ask to withdraw 1 Moin, your total withdraw amount will be 1.001 Moin, out of which 0.001 Moin will go towards transaction fee. mointipbot bot does not keep transaction fees - they go to the network as a payment for processing the transaction.
+accept: accept all pending tips. If you've received a tip before you've registered with the bot, it's marked as pending until you +accept or +decline it. Pending tips expire in 48 hours.
+decline: decline all pending tips. If you've received a tip before you've registered with the bot, it's marked as pending until you +accept or +decline it. Pending tips expire in 48 hours.

Tipping

+mointipbot: The main command, used to tip other users or send tips directly to a given address. The basic syntax is:
+mointipbot [@user|ADDRESS] [AMOUNT|KEYWORD] MOIN
Example Tips
+mointipbot 100 MOIN
Send 100 Moins to the author of parent comment/submission
+mointipbot all MOIN
Send all available Moins
Successful Tips
mointipbot bot will verify successful tips by replying to the +mointipbot comment
Unsuccessful Tips
In case +mointipbot command doesn't go through, mointipbot bot will not reply to the +mointipbot comment. It will send a personal message to the author of +mointipbot command with a notice of what went wrong.
Tips to Un-Registered Users
In case you +mointipbot a user who's not yet registered with mointipbot bot, your tip becomes 'pending' until the user decides to +accept or +decline it, or the tip expires. Pending tips are substracted from your balance and are credited back when declined or expired.
When a pending tip is accepted, mointipbot bot will verify it as successful and reply to the +mointipbot comment with the verification message like above.

Balance

Your balance can be seen with +info command. Notice that after depositing coins to the addresses provided, there's a delay before the new balance becomes available for tipping. "Minimum number of confirmations" setting for each coin (shown above) sets how many confirmations a transaction needs before it's considered valid.

Question about declaring crypto earnings on IR3 return

On your IR3 return, do you declare income from the sale of cryptocurrency as 'overseas income' or 'other income'? Does it depend on whether you used offshore crypto exchanges (and have to convert the values to NZ dollars) or local exchanges?
In the IR3 guide, they list bartering as an example of 'other income' so perhaps crypto-to-crypto exchanges would fall into that category, even if they were done on an overseas exchange?
I also noticed that the IR995 form (Overseas income questionnaire for migrants or returning New Zealanders) lists 'holdings in any digital currencies (eg, Bitcoin, Monero)' as an example of a foreign financial interest, so perhaps that makes it overseas income?
This reminds me of a talk by Andreas Antonopoulos where he discussed passing through border security and whether you have to declare you're carrying more than $10,000 in foreign currency if you have a crypto wallet with you. The answer is no, because the blockchain is everywhere. It's both foreign and local. He didn't bring the crypto with him across the border, it was already there waiting for him! This is a concept that would go right over the heads of most government bureaucrats.

NZ Tax With Respect to Mining Coins

There are plenty of posts in this sub discussing taxation in relation to trading.
I'm wondering what differences there may be with respect to taxation of mining the coins in the first place?
My inexpert guess is that the mining itself wouldn't be taxable as it's a means of acquiring coins and that tax would apply once you traded the coins you've mined and that you'd be able to get some deductions for the equipment and power.
My question is inspired by reading this article posted by timbdoyle, which discusses trading gains in relation to tax and has this sentence:
There are also GST implications and slight variations of the above for those mining btc.
Some references from vaguely related conversations in this sub:

Tron v8.2.0 (2015-12-10) // Significant updates to Stage 2; logging function improvement; many bugfixes

Background

Tron is a script that "fights for the User." Think of it as a "tech-on-a-thumb-drive" that automates the majority of tedious work involved in disinfecting and cleaning up a Windows system.
The goal is ~85-90% automation, with the understanding some things will always be better left to the discretion of the tech. It is built with heavy reliance on community input and updated regularly.
Bug reports, critiques and suggestions are welcome and will be responded to quickly. If you have issues with this release, post a top-level comment and myself or one of the mods will answer, typically in <12 hours.

Sequence of operation

Prep > Tempclean > De-bloat > Disinfect > Repair > Patch > Optimize > Wrap-up | (Manual tools)

Vertcoin's Recent Decisions. The damage hasn't been done yet, please join me in stopping the madness!

Foreword
Alright, I’ve been sitting on the sidelines about most of the dealings with Vertcoin because I felt like a lot of the sensible voices were loud enough on their own. Many people have stepped up to the plate and developed amazing products that benefit Vertcoin at no addition expense to the original development team. I’ve seen and helped test/brainstorm some incredible projects. Vert.geek.nz was a great example: a project that promoted p2pool mining while still allowing miners to reap the benefit of merged mining. Before nzsquirrell brought us this product we were all forced to either solo mine or to switch to a mining pool that support merged coins (namely SimpleVert at the time). V2p was another amazing product. There's the One Click Miner that's being developed right now... There are a lot more, but my point is that people were able to see a need for a new service, and build that service without any voting or public funding or whatever. And they did an amazing job because they thought things through. With input from multiple sources, and a slow, steady brainstorming session, they were able to develop something that really couldn’t have been made better.
Democracy in Action
Alternatively, Vertcoin itself is being left to an absolutely ridiculous voting process right now that WILL destroy the coin, and here’s why: The democratic process doesn’t work. If you build a system by which the majority can make these kinds of decisions, you create an environment based purely on mob mentality. If I can convince a large enough group of people that a certain idea is better than another, I win. This is extremely bad if you’re trying to gather interest from investors as well because it creates too much variance in coin value and feature sets (the idea of changing the also they would probably like, since that’s something Vertcoin has been about since the beginning, changing the inner workings of the coin simply to combat a single “problem” is VERY BAD if you want to attract investors because they see these moves as signs of weakness).
Development
Now, I’ll come back to the VertVote process later, because I think the most important thing to talk about right now is the decision-making process on the part of our developers.
The VTC dev team has done numerous things that don’t make sense to a number of users lately, and they need to be addressed. First, the website update. We’ve beat this horse to a pulp, and I understand that, but I think people still need to keep this in mind. When the new site was released, there wasn’t any input from the community. There wasn’t any play-testing or public brainstorming done to help promote discussion that might have found issues with this site. For example, the “Mining” page still doesn’t have a single mining pool listed, which leaves a user to go out and find a solid pool on their own. This isn’t easy, especially for someone who doesn’t even know how cryptocurrencies work (the primary audience for a site like this should be users with no crypto experience). The same goes for the “Details” page. There’s plenty of technical information, but that doesn’t mean anything to a regular person. They don’t know what an algorithm is, or what block times/rewards are… It even mentioned merged-mining, without any information on what that is. It’s just confusing for a newbie.
Management
Second, and similarly, the marketing fund got thrown into a pit of uselessness. Vertcoin.org was advertised to miners on a site where people go to see the profitability and mining calculations for a number of coins. Let’s just say that the ad actually catches a miners eye and they click on it. It would lead them to a site that has no information on which mining pools they can/should connect to, aside from p2pool. So the most common frequenter of that site can’t access the most important information he would want from the Vertcoin website. I want to know how that seemed like a good idea.
Alternatively, a group of dedicated Vertans (including one miner that has somewhere in the ballpark of 40 rigs, so he’s pretty damn dedicated), built an entire site from scratch that addressed a number of things for regular folks who we should be attracting to Vertcoin, and presented it to the community and the development team. I realize that there’s a sort of pride in work mentality that might have made the devs prefer their own site, but in this case the new presentation was, in my opinion, better. Furthermore, the devs could have taken this new site and moved it over straight away with almost no other changes, besides a couple small fixes and integration to include mobile browsers. Instead, all they got was a 'thanks for the suggestions, I’ll use some of your stuff if it seems fitting’. If you want to check out the alternative site that a few dedicated Vertans built, check it out here.
VertVote
Now, I promised to come back to VertVote. VertVote says on their front page: "You may vote once on any active poll. Make your voice heard Vertan!”, yet there’s literally nothing stopping a member from voting multiple times. So now we’re making decisions about the life of the coin based on how many possible mis-informed people vote for something, with the honest folks losing out more than anyone else (since the honest ones are the ones less likely to cheat)… Probably the most important factor for VertVote would be the fact that it's in the hands of such a knee-jerk crew right now. I didn't even realize that the vote for block maturation was actually a decision-making vote. I assumed it was simply a poll that the dev team wanted to conduct to get a gauge of how strongly the miners feel on the subject. Instead, they took one of the most poorly worded/conducted votes and turned it into the final decision on the continuation of the coin. That was the wrong decision.
Not only that, but it appears that the dev team has decided to interpret the voting results however they see fit, without letting anyone know the conditions of the vote in advance. The example of this being that fact that they completely disregarded the winning vote and instead gave the vote to the second-highest result. To me, this would be like throwing the clear presidential winner out because he only had 49% of the vote (so 51% didn’t want him) and instead picking the candidate who had 30% of the vote simply because he was among the majority… It makes no sense, and if you were going to start a vote with such a senseless base to it, you should have stated as much and given voters more time to decide before they cast their vote(s).
As for the VertVote manipulation, for those who don’t believe me. It’s incredibly easy, and ridiculous. To test things out, I used 100 VTC, spread it out across 10 VTC addresses and cast a vote from each. Nothing in the site, not even a browser cookie, stopped me from casting multiple votes. But then I thought a bit more. Why limit myself by how much VTC I have? All I need is 10 VTC in an address at the moment I cast my vote. So really, I just need 10 VTC plus [number of votes I want to cast] times [transaction fee to send 10 VTC]. I could just keep creating wallets, sending the 10 VTC to the new wallet, and vote again… On the other hand, one of the measures to fight against this behavior is a block on IP addresses submitting multiple votes. This doesn't seem all that logical, considering multiple people could reside at one location / share an internet connection and not be able to voice their opinion as well as a single person / internet user.
Economically, These are Bad Decisions
As for the block subsidy change proposal: This is getting out of hand. Cryptocurrencies’ values need to stay in line with regular products and fiat currency. A very successful cryptocurrency should have about a 1:1 ratio with things normal people are used to. What this means is that we want Vertcoin to settle in value somewhere between $0.50 and $3 each, so that normal people can easily convert the value and go from there. Artificially halting/slowing the production of Vertcoin may result in a slight pump in value, but ultimately it will detract investors because it causes more variance (who knows what the devs/community will want to do next) and it makes Vertcoin less easy to calculate compared to what they’re used to (i.e. the dollar, euro, etc).
Think of it, literally, as a coin. If Vertcoin were an actual coin and each coin were worth over $100, people won’t exactly want to carry it around. For this reason, Bitcoin community members have been discussing creating a denomination of sorts, so they could refer to smaller increments of BTC as something like bits and have each bit worth $0.10-1.00. Your proposal would do the exact opposite and make Vertcoin even more difficult for the layman to comprehend.
Minor side-point
One last thing, and this is mostly unrelated (I noticed it during my experimentation): Vertcoin-Qt has an option to view a transaction on VertExplorer, even though VertExplorer isn’t even around anymore. Alternatively, there’s explorer.vertcoin.org, which works fine. Can the devs please change the wallet so that it can reference transactions without having to copy, browse to explorer.vertcoin.org and then paste/search for that transaction?
For Those Who Think We Need VertVote:
I ask you this, what did you come here for? Did you like Vertcoin, or did you like the idea of a coin that could be constantly changed on the whim of a couple hundred votes? We all bought into Vertcoin because we liked what it stood for (ASIC-resistance), and the economics of it were sound. Even now, the economics of it are only frowned upon because we see so many PoS coins taking over the market. Nobody's out there suggesting we switch to a PoS model, even though PoS is patently anti-ASIC, ASIC-proof for that matter. The whole point of cryptocurrencies is that they are void of any centralized control. If we leave this coin up to the decisions of those who hold it, we're still centralizing the currency's control to those people in particular. Instead, we should be basing the currency on a constitutional model (by that I mean that there should be absolutes that won't be changed, such as the block reward schedule, total VTC supply, time to block solve, etc). The technical details should only change out of absolute necessity to maintain the requirements laid out in the coin's "constitution". In this case, changing the algorithm makes sense, because it maintains the constitutional requirement of being ASIC-resistant. Changing the block reward is just an idea that people like because they see it as a way to increase the value and ROI of their current holdings, without regard to the fact that it'll scare off practically any conscious investor.
